Terry Haines (b. 1961) arrived in Alaska from Northern California in 1983 and found work in Kodiak's cannery row. He describes his early jobs in crabbing and halibut fishing; learning new skills and working his way up to be a deck hand on a “great boat”; fishing accidents; the rise of large, corporate fishing and disputes in Alaska's fishing world; climate change; and the importance and values of fishing life.
