Conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky and pianist Sir Stephen Hough spoke with David Plylar of the Music Division about the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff. Pieces discussed include Rachmaninoff's fourth piano concerto, the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, the Symphonic Dances, and a few smaller works that Rachmaninoff transcribed or revised later in life. Arrangements for this discussion were made with the help of the National Symphony Orchestra, with whom the musicians performed Rachmaninoff's third piano concerto the same week.
