George Washington Wilson was an early commercial photographer credited with being a pioneer in the development of instantaneous photographs (photographs in which motion can be detected). Based in Aberdeen, Scotland, Wilson employed a large staff which traveled around Britain and the Continent, photographing architecture, monuments, cities, and scenery. Using inexpensive half-stereographs, Wilson's company published photographic albums which were very popular. By 1880, George Washington Wilson was the world's largest publisher of photographic views.
