Scenic views of various European countries including cities, landscapes, and monuments. LOT 13071-1 is composed primarily of albumen photographs, many half-stereographs, of the English Lake District, the Scottish Highlands, and various cities in Britain, among them Folkestone, York, and Worthing. There are several photographs of Haddon Hall and many landscape photographs. The subject content is similar to that of LOT 13071-1.
LOT 13071-2 primarily contains half-stereographic prints of Switzerland (Zurich, Lausanne, Geneva, Fribourg, Berne, Interlaken, Neuchâtel); France (Paris, Lyon, Calais, Boulogne); Belgium (Brussels, Ostend); Germany (Coblenz, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Lindau); and Great Britain (Oxford, Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Dover, Isle of Wight, Southsea, Canterbury, and Tunbridge Wells, among others). Among the various subjects depicted are lakes, mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, castles, churches, cathedrals, hotels, ruins, bridges, forts, city centers, harbors, and country houses. In general, prominent tourist sights are covered. The few portraits include a wedding party, women in traditional Welsh dress, and Belgian fishermen and women. There are also several pictures of the International Exhibition of 1862.

<note type="biographical/historical">George Washington Wilson was an early commercial photographer credited with being a pioneer in the development of instantaneous photographs (photographs in which motion can be detected). Based in Aberdeen, Scotland, Wilson employed a large staff which traveled around Britain and the Continent, photographing architecture, monuments, cities, and scenery. Using inexpensive half-stereographs, Wilson's company published photographic albums which were very popular. By 1880, George Washington Wilson was the world's largest publisher of photographic views.</note>
