Dating from 1887 to 1914 and issued as black-and-white photographs or color prints, these forerunners to sports trading cards were distributed in cigarette packs. More than 1,000 major and minor league ballplayers, from teams in thirteen leagues and seventy-five cities in the United States and Canada, are represented. Features legendary figures such as Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, and Cy Young. Offered as part of the American Memory online resource compiled by the National Digital Library Program of the Library of Congress.</description>
