- Addresses the question of indigenous education in Mexico, why it has been problematic, what the evolving politics and pedagogy have been since the question was first addressed institutionally, and what are the failures, obstacles, and viable alternatives. Looks at how such education does not adequately address the indigenous reality - their social, cultural economic, political, or interethnic conditions - and why for most indigenous people, the Mexican education system is seen as alien. Looks at the highlands of the state of Chiapas (San Andrés) as its case and contrasts the official government's approach with the autonomous educational model of rebel Zapatismo, including the lessons the latter can teach us about group-appropriate education in the contexts of indigenous reality today.
