- An ethnographic, historical, and document-based examination, derived from a Spanish doctoral thesis, of development efforts in indigenous communities in Oaxaca (Mazatec, Chinantec) displaced by dams, relocated and struggling to find new ways to get by in a world turned upside down. Calls for more committed anthropology engaged not just with study but collaborating with and assisting indigenous people organize to gain their own objectives while working together with like-minded scholars and activists from other fields. The study also goes to great pains to show the global-local connections and places emphasis on analysis that traces these linkages, ones the author amply demonstrates in her field study.
