- This study looks at the migration of Mixtecs from rural to urban Mexico and the US, observing and describing the complex networks managed by communities with a strong sense of collective membership and identity (ciudadanía comunitaria) - as has been noticed in many such studies. Advocates for improving the lives of migrants based on community networks, authorities, and government agencies - although the author clearly documents how incapable the federal government has been at improving community economic life in this region in the past. Some areas are close to being abandoned as the lack of economic opportunities other than migration depopulate regions.
