Ms Danius, a literary scholar, professor and writer, was the permanent secretary of the academy from 2015 to 2018. Sara Danius was born on April 5, 1962, in Taby, north of Stockholm. She studied at Stockholm University and, after graduating in 1986, established herself as a literary critic. After further studies in France, England and the US, where she received her doctorate in literature from Duke University in 1997, she was appointed professor of aesthetics at Sodertorn University in Stockholm. In 2013 she was named professor of literature at Stockholm University.
