Colliers encyclopedia, c1994 (hdg.: Hippias; the elder son of Pisistratus (546-527 B.C.) whose tyrannical rule ended in 527 B.C. Hippias then ruled jointly with his brother, Hipparchus until 514 when Hipparchus was murdered by Aristogeiton. In reaction to his brother's death, Hippias began to rule in a harshly repressive way until he was besieged in 512 B.C. by the Spartan king Cleomenes and was forced into exile to Persia. Hippias died in 490 B.C.)
