Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 548 ("Joseph Horace Lewis" born October 29, 1824 in Glasgow, Kentucky. Attended Centre College, from where he graduated in 1843. Admitted to the bar in 1845. Served in the Kentucky House of Representatives as a Whig from 1851 to 1855. After serving as colonel of the 6th Kentucky Regiment in the Confederate Army, he was made brigadier general of the 1st Kentucky Brigade, otherwise known as the Orphan Brigade. Served in the Kentucky House of Representatives again in 1869 then elected to the U. S. House of Representatives as a Democrat, serving two terms from May 10, 1870 to March 3, 1873. Elected circuit court judge in 1880. Died at his farm in Scott County, Ky. on July 6, 1904.)
