Wikipedia, German version, June 6, 2019 (Théodore Sauzier; born 15 September 1829, Saint-Joseph, Réunion; died 8 December 1904, Paris, France; after training in Paris he moved to Mauritius, lived with his family as a planter; faced trial for a fatal duel in 1852 (the first jury trial in the history of Mauritius), went briefly into exile; worked as a notary in Port Louis 1868-1875; then settled in Paris, leaving his practice to his brother-in-law; in France he developed a scientific and historical interest in Mauritius, especially natural history and ornithology; returned to Mauritius in 1888, appointed chairman of the Comité des Souvenirs Historiques (paleontology); oversaw excavation of the fossil deposit Mare aux Songes 1889-1891, where he found fossils and bones of extinct bird and turtle species; published scientific articles and monographs 1886-1895)
