As the successor and pupil of Angelo Poliziano and Cristoforo Landino, he was a professor at the University of Florence ("Studio Fiorentino") from 1494 to 1503. From 1498 to 1521 he was Chancellor of the Republic of Florence. He became famous for his annotated translation of Pedanios Dioscorides' pharmacopoeia.)
