Washington post WWW site, viewed March 23, 2021 (in obituary dated March 22, 2021: Elgin Baylor, a Hall of Fame forward who helped lead the Minneapolis and Los Angeles Lakers to eight NBA Finals, died March 22 in Los Angeles. He was 86. Mr. Baylor spent all 14 of his NBA seasons with the Lakers, which drafted him with the first overall pick in 1958 when the franchise was in Minneapolis. The team moved to Los Angeles two years later. Mr. Baylor maintained a long connection with the league while coaching the New Orleans Jazz and serving as the general manager of the Los Angeles Clippers. Elgin Gay Baylor was born in Washington on Sept. 16, 1934. Mr. Baylor coached the Jazz for three seasons before being fired in 1979. He joined the Clippers in 1986)
