Australian Dictionary of Biography, November 10, 2015 (Paul Howard MacGillivray; born: 1834 (Edinburgh); died: July 9, 1895 (at his house in Bendigo); a scientist and medical practitioner by occupation; also became known as one of the most prominent and notable Australian naturalists of the time ; wrote and published "A Catalogue of the Flowering Plants and Ferns growing in the neighbourhood of Aberdeen;" in September 1852 chose to practise medicine in London; later that year, MacGillivray migrated to Melbourne, Australia; acted as a surgeon in the hospital of Bendigo)
