In 1849 Riccius became a conductor of the Euterpekonsert, in 1854 - a chapel master at the Leipzig Theater, and in 1864 - a chapel master at the Theater Chapel in Hamburg where he also served as a vocalist and critic for "Hamburger Nachrichten")
