Encyclopaedia of Islam online, 1913-1936 : (al-Rāḍī Bi ʼllāh ; Abu ʼl-ʻAbbās Aḥmad (Muḥammad) b. al-Muḳtadir, the twentieth ʻAbbāsid caliph. He was born in Rabīʻ II 297 (Dec. 909); his mother was a slave named Ẓalūm. He was proposed for the caliphate immediately after the assassination of his father al-Muḳtadir [q. v.])
