Born 29 October 1734 in Vladimirskai︠a︡ gubernīi︠a︡, the son of a priest with no surname, died 6/18 July 1812 in Saint Petersburg. Studied higher mathematics at the Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg, studied mathematics in Berlin under L.
