Biography/History note | Jane Lathrop Stanford, wife of California businessman and politician Leland Stanford and co-founder of Stanford University, was born Jane Elizabeth Lathrop on August 25, 1828, in Albany, New York. She moved to California in 1855. Following her husband's death in 1893, Jane L. Stanford focused her financial resources on the development of Stanford University and was actively involved in its management. She died on February 28, 1905, in Honolulu, Hawaii. |
