Biography/History noteInstitutum Romanum Finlandiae is a Finnish research and cultural institute located in the Villa Lante in Rome, Italy. Opened in 1954, its central activities are research and education, particularly in classical studies; the main disciplines are ancient and medieval history, classical philology, classical archaeology, and art history. It also organizes educational, artistic, and musical events relating to Finnish history and culture and features Finnish artists-in-residence. The Institutum Romanum Finlandiae was established by Säätiö Institutum Romanum Finlandiae, the foundation that continues to support it.
