He is doing legal research in connection with the major geothermal energy project being conducted by the center under the project direction of Dr. Myron H. Dorfman. General Oberbeck graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1937, and was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers. He received an M.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkely in 1940. In 1972, he retired from the U.S. Army in the grade of Lieutenant General after almost 35 years of military service. In 1975, he received his J.D. degree from the School of Law at the University of Texas at Austin, and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas the same year)
