Johansen, Bruce E. Encyclopedia of Native American biography, 1997: page 382 (Sol Tax; born in Chicago, educated at University of Wisconsin (PhD 1931) and University of Chicago (PhD 1935). Taught anthropology at the University of Chicago starting in 1948. At the behest of President Kennedy, Dr. Tax organized the "American Indian Chicago Conference" which adopted a "Declaration of Indian Purpose", shaping the character of later protest movements, emphasizing the retention of cultural identities.)
