Biography/History noteUnification of the Canadian Armed Forces took place on Feb. 1, 1968 when the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Air Force merged to form the Canadian Armed Forces. From 1968, Royal Canadian Air Force operations were continued under the new umbrella organisation "Canadian Armed Forces" by the Air Defence Command and Air Transport Command (already established under the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 and 1948 respectively) which in 1975 became "Groups" under the new Air Command.
