| Special note | Not the same as: Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (n 80043533) Use of "Universitat" vs. "Universidad" has been inconsistent without a clear pattern. 952 in LC's authority file states, "Catalan and Spanish names treated as a name change, per Desc Pol, 7/6/2018," with no further details. Printed evidence and conversations with staff at the Universitat de Barcelona's library suggest official name was "Universitat" before Franco; became "Universidad" at some point during Franco's nationwide crackdown on the use of the Catalan language; and transitioned back to "Universitat" after Franco, but without clear demarcations or announcements of dates on which the official name/language was to change. In general, follow the period guidelines suggested above when choosing AAP for works by or about the university unless evidence on the piece strongly suggests otherwise. |
