Biography/History noteUntil 1946, the present State Library was known variously as the Missouri Library Commission and the Missouri State Travelling Library. In 1946 the Missouri State Library was established, assuming the functions of the Missouri Library Commission. Located in Jefferson City, it falls administratively within the Division of Higher Education in the State Dept. of Education. What was until 1946 referred to as the Missouri State Library is now known as the Supreme Court Library. This is a separate institution, also located in Jefferson City
