Special note	The Oberpostdirektion Berlin was established in 1850. After the unification of Germany in 1871, it came under federal administration. Its name was changed in 1934 to Reichspostdirektion Berlin. In 1945 the functions of the Reichspostdirektion were taken over by the Abteilung für Post- und Fernmeldewesen of the Magistrat of Gross-Berlin. By the end of 1948 the Magistrat was divided into two separate offices, i.e. East Berlin and West Berlin. In East Berlin the Oberpostdirektion of the German Democratic Republic was created in 1949. In 1954 its name was changed to Bezirksdirektion für Post- und Fernmeldewesen Gross-Berlin
