He was of Creek, Scots-Irish and English parentage, and had migrated to Florida with his mother after the defeat of the Creek in 1814. Osceola led a small band of warriors in the Seminole resistance during the Second Seminole War, when the U.S. tried to remove the Seminoles from their lands.
