Biography/History note | In 1945, work in the energy field was placed under the Ministry of Supply as the department responsible for armaments. On Aug. 1, 1954 the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority was founded to take over responsibility for research and development. It is a non-departmental organization outside Civil Service, but accountable for its activities to the Government. |
