He was 82. He wrote dozens of novels, plays, nonfiction books and poetry collections while teaching at his alma mater, the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, 1968. Rudolfo Alfonso Anaya was born in Pastura, N.M., on Oct. 30, 1937. He worked as a public school teacher and as a counselor at the University of Albuquerque before joining the faculty of his alma mater, where he helped found the creative writing program.
