He studied at St Theresa's Minor Seminary at Amisaano and St Peter's Major Seminary at Cape Coast; was ordained priest in December 1959, In 1962 and 1963 he graduated with Licentiate in Sacred Theology and a doctorate degree in Sacred Theology, at the University of St Thomas Acquinas, Rome, Italy respectively. In 1965, at the University of Oxford, England, he graduated with Diploma in Anthropology and Master of Letters (M. Litt.) in Social Anthropology. He continued his education at the University of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome and was awarded Doctorate in Sacred Theology. In terms of appointments, he has held many top positions in the Catholic hierarchy. He was the first African rector of St Peter's Major Seminary at Cape Coast from 1967 to 1970. He served as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi from January 17, 2002 to 2008 and was awarded LL. D Degree (Honoris Causa) by the University of Cape Coast in December 2006. In 2002, he was elevated to the position of the first Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi. He also became the president of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference. In civil society, he once served as the chairman of the University Council of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi; and he became a member of the Council of State, Ghana)
