Special noteThe duchy of Mecklenburg was divided in 1621 to form Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Güstrow. In 1701 Mecklenburg-Güstrow became Mecklenburg-Strelitz. In 1934 Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz were re-united to form the state of Mecklenburg.
