She was 92. Merle Dorothy Rosenblatt was born on March 12, 1931, in New Haven, Conn.; husband, Marshall Goldman; Radcliffe College, master's degree in Chinese studies; earned a doctorate from Harvard focused on Chinese history. She was a professor at Boston University from 1972 to 2001 and was on the faculty of Harvard's Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies)
