Milton Margai Alumni website, Milton Margai College of Education and Technology, Background, viewed December 20, 2018 (MMCET started as a primary school teacher training programme at Fourah Bay College (FBC), Mount Aureol, and offered Teachers Certificate (TC); in 1960 it was relocated to the military barracks at Tower Hill and called Freetown Training College for Teachers [not found in OCLC]; in 1963 it relocated to the current Goderich site and was renamed Milton Margai Teachers College (MMTC), after Sierra Leone's first Prime Minister, who was present at the opening ceremony; in its early years, the college offered TC, Teacher's Advance Certificate (TAC), and Higher Teachers Certificate (HTC) in secondary school education; in 1995 it was renamed Milton Margai College of Education (MMCE) [not found in OCLC], with degree granting status in response to the 6:3:3 national education scheme; in 2001 it was rebranded MMCET (Milton Margai College of Education and Technology) [found in 2 records in OCLC] on merger with the Freetown Technical Institute and the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality; 3500 students in 5 faculties: Education, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business & Management Studies, and Hotel Tourism & Nutritional Studies)
