Wikipedia, viewed on October 22, 2021 (born June 23, 1924 in Colombo; Raṇasiṅka Pirēmatācā; dead May 01, 1993; President of Sri Lanka from January 02, 1989-May 01, 1993; served as Prime minister, February 06, 1978-January 01, 1989; assassinated in Colombo by a suicide bomb by LTTE; at age fifteen, Premadasa started the Sucharita Children's Society, which later became the Sucharitha Movement, a volunteers organisation with the objectives of uplifting the economic, social and spiritual development of the low income people living in shanty areas of the capital; Premadasa started his political career in 1946 joining the Ceylon Labour Party as a full time member and campaigned for Goonesinghe in the 1947 general election. In 1950, he was elected to the Colombo Municipal Council as a member of San Sebastian's Ward; contested elections in 1965 and was appointed as Chief government whip and Parliament secretary)
