In 1838 the settlement of Aleksandrii︠a︡ [no publs. in LC data base] was established; soon it was renamed as Navaginskoe ukreplenie [no publs. in LC data base] because it was on the Turkish-Russian border. After the Crimean War of 1853 the settlement was rebuilt and renamed Post Dakhovskiĭ [no publs. in LC data base] until 1874 when it was again renamed as Dakhovskiĭ posad [no publs. in LC data base]. From 1896 the settlement had becomae a city and was renamed as Sochi.
