Members of Parliament, Scotland, 1882: p. xiv (Conventions of the Estates were frequently called together for dispatch of urgent business; at first they consisted of the Privy Council with a few additional members specially summoned with sittings rarely exceeding one or two days. In 1567 it was enacted that provosts of burghs or commissioners for burghs should be present in every Convention; towards the end of the 16th cent. composition of the Convention of Estates became substantially identical with that of Parliament)
ESTC/BL files (Do not use Convention of Estates after June 1689 when 'Act declaring the meetings of the Estates to be a Parliament. Edinburgh, the fifth day of June, 1689' was passed; use Convention of Estates as a heading or added entry, when necessary, during the period 1641-1689)
