Special noteTwo versions of the work exist. The first, with title: Mosè in Egitto; azione tragico-sacra, is in 3 acts and was first performed at the San Carlo Opera, Naples, Mar. 5, 1818, as an oratorio. The prayer, Dal tuo stellato soglio in Act 3 was added for the revival of Mar. 7, 1819. The libretto is by A. L. Tottola. This version was performed both as an oratorio and as an opera. The second version, enlarged (borrowing from earlier works) and in 4 acts, retaining about half of the first version (all of Act 1 except Pharoah's aria, Parlar, spiegar from Act 2, and the prayer from Act 3) was produced at the Paris Opéra, Mar. 26, 1827, with the French libretto by E. Jouy and L. Balocchi, with title: Moïse et Pharaon, ou Le passage de la mer rouge. The second version was adapted back into Italian ca. 1829-30, and both versions were frequently performed during the 19th century as both an opera and an oratorio. Cf. Loewenberg. Annals of opera; and Weinstock, H. Rossini. The versions are cataloged separately; Use as sources for excerpts: [Mosè in Egitto] Paris, Pacini, ca. 1820. M2003.R8M48 1820z.
