Dictionanaire historique des juristes français XIIe-XXe siècle, 2007: pp. 203-204 (Coras (Corasius), Jean de; born 1512 at Réalmont (Tarn), died 4 October 1572 in Toulouse; best known as the judge and chronicler of Martin Guerre's trial and as a victim of the Toulousain Saint-Barthélemy massacre; studied law from a young age at Angers, Orléans, and Paris, then traveled to Italy and Padua; earned doctorate in law in 1535; returned to Toulouse where he taught civil law; in 1545 took a post at Valence, then in 1550 he went to Ferrara; returned to France after the death of his spouse in 1552; became counseiller to the parlement de Toulouse; acted as a magistrate; embraced Calvinism; imprisoned in Toulouse after Saint-Barthélemy massacre, where he was among those was killed by a group of Catholic extremists; author of commentaries on the Digest and Code, as well as on French law)
