African American National Biography, accessed April 07, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Valentine, Kid Thomas; jazz musician, trumpeter, trombonist; born 03 February 1896 in Reserve, Louisiana, United States; formed a band called the Niles (by 1915); became a leader of Elton Theodore's band at the Beleville Gardens; began playing in Marrero at the Moulin Rouge Club (by 1936); began recording with the Algiers Stompers and had issued many popular recordings (by 1954); he and the clarinetist George Lewis took the Preservation Hall band on tour throughout the United States (1963); his best recordings include the LP albums Kid Thomas' Algiers Stompers (1951), Kid Thomas at the Moulin Rouge (1956), Kid Thomas at Kohlman's Tavern (1968), and Kid Thomas 1981 (1981); died 16 June 1987 in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States)
