Dictionary of African Biography, accessed March 13, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database (Mungoshi, Charles; fiction writer, translator, editor; born 02 December 1947 in Manyene, Zimbabwe; joined the Literature Bureau as literary editor (1975); published three novels in Shona, one novel in English, and several collections of short stories; wrote one Shona drama, “Inongova Njakenjake” (Each Does His Own Thing, 1980) and a poetry collection in English, “The Milkman Doesn't Only Deliver Milk” (1981); an editor with Zimbabwe Publishing House, developing and supporting Zimbabwean writers (from 1982); wrote and directed a UNESCO film entitled “Abide by Me” (1992); his first Shona novel, “Makunun'unu Mawodza Mwoyo” (Brooding Breeds Despair) won a prize sponsored by the Southern Rhodesia Literature Bureau (1968); two of Mungoshi's novels, “Ndiko Kupindana Kwamazuva” (As Time Passes) and “Waiting for the Rain”, received International PEN awards (1975); his children's literature, “One Day, Long Ago: More Stories from a Shona Childhood,” (1992) won a Noma Award; “Walking Still” (1997), collection of short stories, won the African region Commonwealth Writers Prize (1998))
