Mazzola detto il Parmigianino, 1772; also engraved after his own designs; paintings less significant)

Article in Grove Art Online/Oxford Art Online, accessed Feb. 11, 2016 (Bossi, Benigno, born Arcisate di Como, 1727; died Parma, 4 Nov. 1792; Italian stuccoist, printmaker, painter and collector; learned stucco decoration from his father Pietro Luigi (died 1754), who worked in Germany from 1743 until his death; stucco work always remained Bossi's main activity, alongside that of printmaking, especially etching; first etching done in Milan in 1758; from 1759 on he was in Parma; from 1761, collaborated with the designer Ennemond-Alexandre Petitot; from 1 April 1766, employed as a stucco artist at the Bourbon court in Parma and as a teacher at the Accademia di Belle Arti, where he won the prize for ornamentation; a few oil paintings are attributed to him; his prints, especially etchings, "merit separate consideration in terms of both quality and quantity"; he was also "a passionate collector of prints, both for sale and as sources of new ideas for himself and the numerous pupils who were trained in his school"; "helped introduce to Parma the style of Central European Rococo")
