Graduated from the Louisville College of Pharmacy (now part of the University of Kentucky) in 1881, received a medical degree from the University of Louisville in 1889. Later studied in Strasbourg, Berlin and Prague and at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Professor of pathological anatomy at Johns Hopkins University from 1888 to 1899 and then at the University of Pennsylvania. Became director of the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research in New York 1903-1935. Wrote 350 scientific papers. Died in New York City May 2, 1946.) |
