Mercury news WWW site, viewed Apr. 17, 2017 (in article dated Apr. 25, 2017: Robert Sinsheimer, an internationally recognized biologist and chancellor emeritus of UC Santa Cruz, died Saturday [Apr. 22, 2017] in Santa Barbara at the age of 97; received his undergraduate degree in quantitative biology and his M.S. and Ph.D. in biophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; in 1957, he accepted the post of professor of biophysics at Caltech, where he worked for the next 20 years; accepted the position of chancellor of UCSC in 1977 and served until 1987; after his tenure at UCSC, Sinsheimer joined the faculty at UC Santa Barbara as a professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology; retired in 1990 but performed laboratory work for many years and continued to work as a consultant to the time of his death; born in Washington, D.C. in 1920)
