Found inHaggadah. The Ashkenazi Haggadah, 1985: CIP t.p. (Joel ben Simeon Feibusch Ashkenazi) added t.p. (Yoʼel ben Shimʻon Ṿaibesh Ashkenazi [in Heb.]) book title page (The Ashkenazi Haggadah; a Hebrew manuscript of the mid-15th century from the collections of the British Library, written and illuminated by Joel ben Simeon Feibusch Ashkenazi) pages 7, 9 (title represented here is drawn from the name adopted by its scribe while he was living outside Germany, where he was known as "the German" or "Ashkenazi"; colophon gives name of artist as "Feibusch, called Joel," no doubt Joel ben Simeon Feibusch Ashkenazi, of Bonn and Cologne (describes hometown in one place as Bonn, in another as Cologne); Joel ben Simeon the scribe; known only through 11 manuscripts with his name in colophon, of which 9 survive; presumably responsible for more; colophons describe him sometimes as scribe, sometimes as artist, or both; most scholars believe that he was master craftsman who had workshop and employed several scribes and artists; he would plan and design the manuscript, participate in some of the work, but left a great deal to assistants; active 1449-1485; worked in both Germany and northern Italy)

Haggadah (Manuscript Washington Haggadah). The Washington Haggadah, 2011: title page (The Washington Haggadah; copied and illustrated by Joel ben Simeon)
Oxford art online, 30 March 2020: Joel ben Simeon (Joel ben Simeon (Feibush Ashkenazi) (fl 15th century); Jewish scribe and illuminator, active in Germany and northern Italy; lived in Cologne and Bonn; most of the manuscripts attributed to him are liturgical texts, especially Haggadot; usually named self as the scribe of a manuscript, as in: First Nuremberg Haggadah (Jerusalem, Schocken Lib., MS. 24086); First New York Haggadah (New York, Jew. Theol. Semin. America Lib., MS. Mic. 4481); prayerbook dated 1449 (Parma, Bib. Palatina, MS. 3144); prayerbook dated 1452/3 (Turin, Bib. N. U., MS. A. III. 14); a Haggadah (Cologny, Fond. Bodmer, MS. Cod. Bodmer 81); prayerbook dated 1469 (London, BL, MS. Add. 26957); Washington Haggadah, dated 1478 (Washington, DC, Lib. Congr., Hebr. MS. I); and David Kimhi's commentary on Psalms dated 1485 (Parma, Bib. Palatina, MS. 2841); in 2 works, referred to self as the artist: Ashkenazi Haggadah (London, BL, MS. Add. 14762) and 6 leaves of Tabernacle implements (untraced); in 1 manuscript, Second New York Haggadah (New York, Jew. Theol. Semin. America Lib., MS. Mic. 8279), described self as the scribe and decorator; as the approximately 20 manuscripts attributed to him are somewhat inconsistent in style, has been assumed that he headed a workshop)

Kogman-Appel, Katrin. Joel ben Simeon looking at the margins of society, between 2011 and 2019, viewed online 30 March 2020: page 1 (Joel ben Simeon, who sometimes used the surname "Feibush") pages 2-4 (possible that experienced expulsion of Jews from Cologne as small child in 1424, then spent some time in nearby Bonn, where began his profession; early work prior to 1450 produced in southern Germany; around middle of century, moved to northern Italy, where would spend most of professional life; style after move reflects fashions in early modern Italy and trends in Italian art; quite clear that did not settle anywhere for long, but rather continued to move from city to city seeking a livelihood; later would return to Germany at least twice, take part in making of some manuscripts, 2 still extant: London Haggadah in c. 1460 and Washington Haggadah in 1478; between these periods and after 1478, was back to Italy, where died, apparently around 1492)
