Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 716 (Carl Dexter Perkins, born in Hindman, Ky., attended Caney Junior College (now Alice Lloyd College), and at Lees College. then worked as a teacher in a Knott County Schools. In 1935 he graduated from the University of Louisville law school, then worked in private practice. Elected to the Kentucky General Assembly in 1940, then to U.S. Congress in 1948, where he began to serve as a Democrat starting on January 3, 1949. Died August 3, 1984).
