The Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 46 ("William Orlando Butler"; born April 19, 1791 in Jessamine County, Ky. Grew up in what is now Carrollton, Ky. Graduated from Transylvania University in 1812. Served as a soldier in the War of 1812 1812-1817 and later through the Mexican-American War. Returned to what is now Carrollton where he set up a law practice and served in the Kentucky legislature 1817-1818. Wrote poetry. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives where he served March 4, 1839-March 3, 1843 as a Democrat. Died in Carrollton on August 6, 1880.)
