Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 775 (Philipine "Fiddlin' Doc" Roberts, musician, born in Madison County, Ky. Appeared on Nashville's "Grand Ole Opry' and on several radio stations. He and Asa Martin recorded more than 200 sides, under a dozen stage names. With Roberts' son James Roberts, and Asa Martin they formed the Doc Roberts Trio. Died August 4, 1978.)

Though his records were successful and there was considerable pressure to tour nationwide, Roberts refused and preferred to stay close to home. He had regular radio shows in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lexington, Kentucky which tired him out and soured him on traveling and big cities.)
