Washington place names, via WWW, September 29, 2015 (Dayton. Coordinates: 46.32167+N,117.9746+W. Dayton is at the junction of Touchet River and Patit Creek in central Columbia County. The first settler was William M. Chase who arrived in 1855. A town site plat was filed by Jesse N. and Elizabeth Day on November 23, 1871. The town was incorporated by the storekeeper, Jesse Day in 1881. In 1872, a post office, which was established at nearby Touchet in 1864, was moved to Dayton. On some early maps, the name of Touchet is found on the site of Dayton. Dayton was incorporated November 10, 1881; also has listing for another place named Dayton in Mason County)
