Kerr, a former Newberry Professor of Mineralogy at Columbia University who specialized in studies of uranium deposits for the Manhattan Project... He had been a teacher of mineralogy and scientist at Columbia... Dr. Kerr also had studied the geology of tungsten and the application of X-rays to mineralogical procedures. Dr. Kerr, who was born in Hemet, Calif., graduated from Occidental College and received a doctorate in geology from Stanford. He was a former president of the Mineralogical Society of America.)
