Oxford Dictionary of National Biography online, viewed 6 September 2021 (Carew, Sir George (c. 1556-1612), administrator and diplomat, was probably born at Antony, Cornwall; in 1577, after university, presumably Oxford, he entered the Middle Temple, before taking the grand tour and sitting in the first of seven consecutive parliaments: for St Germans in 1584-5, 1597-8, 1601, and 1604-10; and for Saltash in 1586-7, 1589, and 1593; in summer 1605, he was nominated ambassador to France; he died of typhus on Friday 13 November 1612, at his new house in Tothill Street, Westminster)
